1973 Omega De Ville 551.074 - Rare Andrew Grima Design - Automatic 661 Omega Cal.
Let's talk about Andrew Grima real quick, he was widely regarded as the father of modern jewelry. Grima's philosophy was rooted in the belief that jewelry should be a form of art — an expression. His approach was unconventional, influenced by modern art and architecture rather than the traditional techniques and aesthetics that dominated the industry at the time.
In 1969, over dinner in Philadelphia, Robert Forster, Omega's Director of Production, outlined a brief to Andrew Grima for a collection of watches. While there was a few stipulations from Grima's end they did agree and the "About time" collection was created.
Okay back to this specific De Ville, its a striking example of Grima's design language. Has this rectangle tank style case with dramatically beveled edges, bold and angled cuts on the corners of the glass cut crystal. The dial has a stunning effect, fades from deep black to near silver color depending on the light. The occasional glimpses of iridescence on the crystal as the light beams down the crystal. A pretty piece with lots of history. It's powered by the automatic 661 Omega Cal. that holds time well. It's on a leather aftermarket band. Happy to answer any questions and provide more pictures!
