1970s Technos Sportsgraph Regatta - Landeron 248 chronograph movement - Freshly Service - Full Set
Let's start off with Technos, some people know but for the ones that don't - Technos goes back to 1900. It was a small family watchmaking business in Switzerland. In the 60s and 70s, they had a very strong reputation for sporty, well built tool watches. Unfortunately, like many other brands from this era (especially small, family owned ones like Technos) were hit hard by the quartz crisis. In the early 80s, Edox, Technos and Certina merged under the same umbrella to create kind of a defensive consolidation against the quartz crisis. But once again, none of them made it through the vicious jaws of the battery powered watches.
I'm thrilled to bring you such a well-preserved survivor. This Sportsgraph is in all original, unpolished condition. It has a distinct case shape, its a mix of a cushion and a C case shape. Wears lovely on the wrist. Now, let's talk about the Regatta timer complication, in sailboat racing - the start is just about everything. It's not a normal race where everyone lines up behind a fixed line. There is a 5 or 10 minute starting countdown before the race begins, during which the boats maneuver to hit the start line at full speed as the race is starting. SO this is where the Regatta timer comes in, to make the countdown readable at a quick glance - the Regatta sub-dial is painted with colored blocks(Red, blue and white) that has a 5 and a 10 minute side. Each block represents one minute. So the Skipper starts the chronograph at the warning signal, as it sweeps through the colors they're easily are able to tell how much time is left.
It's such a unique complication - and all of this is powered by the absolute workhorse of a movement, the Landeron 248 chronograph. On the Landeron Calibers, the 2o clock pusher is to start it and the 4 o clock stops AND resets it. Unlike the other Chronograph calibers from this era, the top pusher starts it, stops it and the bottom one is to reset. It has been freshly serviced so holds time perfectly for years to come. It's on the original mesh band, comes with the box and papers. Happy to answer any questions and provide more pictures!
