1970s Movado Sub-Sea 50 - Ref. 126-704-J510 - Manual Winding

A 1970s Movado Sub-Sea 50, reference 126-704-J510, in steel on its original Milanese mesh. The Sub-Sea name goes back to the early 1960s to the ones with pushers and rotating bezels and a job to do. This one has no job. It just tells the time and looks extremely good doing it.

The dial is what pulls you in. Silver, brushed vertically, and it refuses to hold still. Straight on it reads as kind of a pale steel, tilt it a few degrees and it drifts toward a cool grey-blue, then goes almost white where the light rakes across the grain. Tried my best to capture it with the pictures. Set into it are applied bi-colour batons, the wide variant(which is a lot more rare), polished steel with a black stripe running through the middle. The hands carry the same treatment, black stripe down polished steel, matching the markers. It has such a presence on the wrist yet its not loud at all.

What i keep coming back to is the proportions and the bracelet. It's a 35mm case with a integrated downturned lugs that screams the era it's from, which then the curved end mesh bracelet creates a flawless transition. Its powered by the Movado own 2542 manual winding movement that holds time accurately. Happy to answer any questions and provide more pictures!
